Urban Strategies

These studies are trying to exploit the potential and opportunities found around the site. Important elements to be manipulated are like extensions of the public realm from human's movement and activities around the site, slipping of the site with historical elements and circulation programmes, connecting the proposed hotel with any possible potentials with the existing surrounding hotels (programmes, infrastructure, etc.), and the issues of framing views.

These issues are extensions from my previous mapping as well as my interest in previous projects (i.e. unfolding the cube, views and spaces that are concealed and revealed, etc.) that I hope would help in generating ideas for the design development.

These are some great initial thoughts and potentials for the site. The diagrams are very clear and elegant. Can you start to look at which strategies might be compatible and how they might be combined. Also, can your ambitions stretch a little further beyond the site... how far reaching is the impact... to the river...beyond the city? The diagrams currently imply a number of acts at the same scale but this is probably not the case and some proposals would have a greater or lesser impact/ influence/ scale of interaction. Keep it up- maybe also start to make some small handheld models with routes, surfaces and extruded volumes to test the potential overlaps within a physical insertion

The improvements to the diagrams look good- I think it would be good to make some simple card models of these scenarios, trying to combine different strategic operations. The views seem critical, so also consider what kinds and scales of spaces might occur at these viewing 'incidents'- a 1:1000 or 1:500 seriation of models would be ideal. I will post some examples later on tonight- Jonathan
