Stone / Foam Moulds

Twelve 70x70 mm foam cubes, all carved with different settings of heat and angle by the foam cutter. Different light conditions and spatial qualities can be observed on these twelve cubes.

The study aims to formally imitate the tectonic moves, the collision of tectonic plates. Overlapping voids let me get interesting light qualities in these spaces.
Although only a formal imitation is not a healthy way to explore the ukiyo-e image, I'm planning to do some more accidental cubes using different materials.

How did you make this image- is this from the scanner- or manipulated in another way? It gives a useful comparison of light effects. How are you going to use these kind of readings to develop your void-forming techniques? Jonathan
