I am posting some examples of previous work to give you a flavour of what we might expect from the current mapping project and the conclusion of the Japan work. Maps and unfolded elevational drawings were constructed alongside coded models to reveal latent patterns and qualities . More to follow.....
This mapping by Hitoshi Yamamura distinguished between three different user groups by describing each through a typical route scenario
These routes were then reconstructed as a physical 3d model to show overlaps, widths and topographical characteristics
This mapping by Liz Betterton shows a series of buildings along the Omotesanto strip and also recods the spaces in between.
This unfolded elevation drawing by Bo Tang classified each type of signage through notation (line type, colour code to differentiate neon, graphics, sound
etc.)
These were then reconstructed through a series of coded neon models to reveal the latent patterns regarding visibility, access and property ownerships
