I like in the collage image that some areas shows flat and some have depth. It looks as you type of spaces: 1-deep, 2-flat. You may want to enphasise this by making the spaces that shows depth with some shadows so to enhance the perspective effect and have more contrast. The portions of the image where spaces are flatter less contrasted.
I like the idea of variations in scale- and I think we are beginning to see movement and depth. However, I think you can improve the technique and inhabitation by balancing the colour (b+w?) and light issues (light sources and shadows), thinking about how images might be combined, cropped or overlap and also the resolution of figures- to improve the overall quality.
